It’s been a tough boxing road for ‘King’ Carlos Molina. A road that he has overcome time and time again. Winning a World title despite always being the underdog and having to work for everything he has earned. Since late 2013 the road has been as tough as ever when Molina was deported to Mexico in 2014 and his career has struggled since then. Saturday night he faces unbeaten Souleymane Cissokho and looks to rebound yet again.
Molina has been the victim of bad decisions as was the case when he fought Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and has been a victim of controversial calls as was the case in a bout against James Kirkland when ahead on the cards was disqualified when one of his cornermen came into the ring before the bell sounded to end a round. Punchline.live caught up with Molina for an few minutes and the following is that interview!

Punchline: How has this training camp gone and how are you feeling at this stage?

Carlos Molina: At this point I feel like my whole life is a training camp . I keep my weight low, and I am an avid runner so I am always keeping my miles up . I go to the boxing gym year round . The only difference is when I schedule a fight, I kick up the sparring, work on a plan , drop a little weight and I am ready to go . I stay ready so I don’t have to struggle to get into fighting shape . I can run a marathon or go 12 rounds on any given day .

Punchline: Fighters in the past haven’t seemed to have so much trouble returning to the States, how much has it affected you with the promoters and such to not be fighting in the Sates?

Carlos Molina: Not being able to fight in the states has changed my whole career . I have been reduced to fighting undefeated fighters in their home town, putting me on the B side in every fight, much like I began my career . I was never meant to win , I was never given fights that were to showcase me and my talents . I could take safe fights in Mexico right now but that isn’t who I am . I want that big win . I want to beat the undefeated Olympian in his hometown no matter how tough of a challenge it is , I know I am capable of getting the win . Team Molina has never taken the easy or safe road.

Punchline: Fighting in hostile territory, how has that helped or hurt you in the past? It depends on how you look at it . It feels really good to go to a guys hometown, on a show made for him and steal the win away . That is what I built my career on . The tough part is getting that decision . I have to win every round to get the decision, something I have done plenty of times before. It’s not impossible , but it is a steep challenge .

Carlos Molina: I know you don’t look ahead, but assuming all is successful, what would you like to see next with all that is going on in Boxing and with how loaded your division is?
I want to fight all the champions, everyone in 2 divisions . I want to be a 2 time world champion and I would really like to fight Munigua in Mexico for the 154 pound World Title .

Punchline: Any message you’d like to send to your fans and supporters?

Carlos Molina: I think I have the best fans in boxing . A King Carlos Molina supporter usually knows their boxing and has appreciation for the sweet science . I appreciate the support from these people greatly and I am thankful for them sticking with me through the ups and downs of my career . To the people who still cheer for me and believe in that second world title I am always working and I am not letting up just hang in there .
